The Shadows of Hebrew (Part 4)

Shalom Haverim,

This Week's Installment will continue to deal with The Creation, but in the process, we will look at the beginning and development of an Economy or Eco-system.

Last Week, we ended with discussing the dynamics of Night and Day, and Darkness and Light.  This concept of Dark to Light, and to Dark again, composed the concept of "Yom" (A Day).  We read that the Evening and the Morning were the 1st Day.  The Hebrew reads "Yom Echad" (One Day).  Meaning that, it doesn't necessarily mean, "The First Day" within Hebrew Thought, but rather that The Events within this Time-Frame "Darkness to Light to Darkness again," constituted the events of "One Day."

Therefore, as we continue, let's begin by having a deeper look at the Hebrew Thought behind the concept of "Echad." (One)

Now the Word Echad can mean "One," as in "One of a Kind," or we MAY perceive it as a Number, as in The Number - 1, but Ancient Hebrew doesn't think of it this way.  When referring to the Number One in Hebrew, we are actually to think about something being Singular or United as 1 thing, rather than "An Individual Unit of the Set."

If we are thinking "First," as in the First of a serious (Counting), Ancient Hebrew would see this as a "Rosh" or "The Head," or "The Beginning."  Although, we do count in the sequence Echad, Shnayim, Shlosha, Echad is meant to be understood as the 1 that makes it whole, and the 2, 3 and so on, are just the other parts of that Echad.

This is to teach us that the Mathematics of Counting in Hebrew Thought, is based upon the concept of cell division, rather than addition.  Meaning that, "1 divides into 2," rather than "1 plus 1 equals 2."  The difference in understanding this, is that the objective is to "reunite" the divisions back to a singular state, opposed to adding up to a point of a collective wealth.  Therefore the objective of Hebrew Math is based upon the concept of "Reconciliation," rather than "Accumulation."

This is to say that when counting to 10, our objective is not to reach the concept of 10, but rather that the "10" represents the Unit, formed by the 10 items that contribute to its Unity.  Therefore, each time that we count the parts of something, the answer should always be "Echad" (One) or 10 = 1 Unit (Made up of 10 parts).

Otherwise, there is no need to count them.  If the items are not meant to be "Echad," then they are meant to be 10 individual concepts - "Kadosh," (Holy) - "Separated" - "Everything within its Rightful Place."

This is where we begin to understand the premise of algebra.  2a + 3b does not equal 5.  It equals "5ab."  In this concept the parts that are not meant to be counted together, remain within a state of Kadosh (separated for their individual purpose).  Only things of likeness are meant to be counted together in order to from a Unit (Echad) or One.

If something is already 1, then it is complete - "It is Good" (Tov).  Therefore if "Tov" is Echad, then "Ra" (Evil) is to "Add To," it.  Perhaps this understanding may solve the mystery of why the Word for "To See," "Evil," "Provision" and "Fear," are all related within the Word, "Y'ra." This is where we get the term "YHVH Jirah" - "The LORD provides" or "The LORD adds to you."

However, keep in mind that the objective of Hebrew Thought is not to accumulate, but rather to return to a state of Echad (Perfect Balance).  Meaning that what He "Adds" (Ra) to you, is meant to balance out what we have already lost - therefore He "Adds" (Ra) to maintain The Balance (Echad) or (Wholeness).

This explains "Hunger."  If we are Hungry, this means that our body has lost its sufficiency, and we are now in a state of negative sustenance.  Therefore, He "Provides" (Y'ra) for us to bring us back to equilibrium.  If we over indulge in Food, we go past the point of necessity, and into the realm of Obesity, or "Accumulation."  In this case, we are no longer "Echad."  We must sacrifice in order to return to Balance.

It is when things are added to "The 1," that we begin to move away from the Tov (Good or Purity) of it.  This is what we refer to as the cause and effects of entropy.  Once our Ecosystem lost its Purity, the World became Tohu-Bohu again, in a sense.  Therefore the objective of the Universe is to return to its Unified State - Judaism refers to this concept as "Tikkun-Olam" (The fixing of The Universe).

Last week we focused mostly on the concept of Tohu and Bohu, the division of the Primal Universal Elements.  Once the Tohu and Bohu came together, they formed a Unity, and that Unity was called "Tov" (Good).

I left off last week, explaining how it was "The Light," that was the Torah (Instruction) that told the Tohu and Bohu to come together to form this unity.

In a past study of Berashiet, we had determined that it was actually "Binary" that was the oldest language known to the Universe.  In fact, Binary is the primary language that runs the world today - Technologically speaking.  Computers are run on this "On-Off" concept.  The only real quest within Technology at present is, how to increase the speed of these impulses.  We refer to this Binary Code as "Ones and Zeros," but what this really comes down to is Energy, and the lack thereof - Darkness (0) and Light (1).  It is this Binary Code of Light (Pulse), that tells the Universe what it is and should be.  In fact, Atomic and Sub-Atomic structures are built upon this primary concept of oscillating energy.  God's Entire Universe is designed upon this premise!  (Tohu and Bohu)

Last week, as I pondered what topic to discuss, I began to think about how this Tohu-Bohu applied to the Binary Code of Energy and lack of Energy (Light and Dark).  In doing so, I experienced another "Eureka" moment.  It was the very Arabic Symbols that we use to depict Ones (1) and Zeros (0) that reinforced my newly developed understanding of the Tohu and Bohu, as being the building blocks of the Universe.

Is it any wonder why God designed us in "His Image," where the concept of the Tohu and Bohu, are the very physical manifestations of what makes us who we are (Male and Female), the very symbols of procreation ( (1) Ones and (0) Zeros)?

To say the least, after reaching this Revelation, I will never be able to look at a "1" and "0" the same way again.

I cannot fully recall where I learned this, but I was taught as a young man in School that, "The Mayans invented the Zero."  After some further, and more recent research, I discovered that other ancient civilizations, in fact, did have the concept of "Zero," but the reason that the Mayans are pointed out, is because they (Allegedly) did not have contact with, or could not have received this understanding from an outside influence.  Whereas the other civilizations that carried a "Zero" concept, did have some type of Geographical connection.

What I do recall after all these year, is not understanding what the Teacher was talking about.  How could you "Invent" a Zero?  The Zero is just a concept that tells us that there is nothing -- Right?

It wasn't until I began to ponder the premise of Ancient Hebrew Math, that I realized, "Oh Ya...  Hebrew doesn't have a Zero!"

Now, if I am to continue in this vein that Hebrew is "God's Chosen Language," then am I to assume that God didn't need a Zero?  Why not?  "If I got nothing, then I have 'Zero' -- Right?"

The Point of the Ancient Hebrew Mind was, "If you got nothing, then it doesn't need to be counted...  It's nothing!  So go get something, and we can start counting it!"

Humour aside, the point is that the key to understanding this Zero, has to do with "Accumulative" Math.  It is only useful if we are looking at "Accumulation."  However if the primary concept is based upon "Reconciliation," with the objective to reach "Echad," (Unity - Tikkun Olam) then although Echad means 1, it can also mean Zero, as in "Zero Balance" - "The Debt has been Paid in Full,"and things are back to the way they were found - "Berashiet" (In The Beginning).

This understanding is Foundational, because this helps us understand what happened in the Garden, and Why we had to go.  The Zero Balance or "Echad" had to be reset.

Now we are beginning to understand this "Economy."  "The Wages of Sin is Death." (Romans 6:23)  We need to return to the Garden, but until we are "Sinless," we cannot reenter.

This is why Revelation 2:7 states:

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the Kehielot; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.

In essence, the Word of God is teaching us that we are going back to The Garden ("The Paradise of God") to eat of The Tree of Life, "One Day."

How do we get this?

21 The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. 22 And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side[e] of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.  Genesis 3:21-24

Therefore, now do the Words of Yeshua make more sense when He says, "The Last shall be First and the First shall be Last?"  Matthew 20:16

In essence, He is explaining to us within the context of the Parable that "Time," as we understand it, is irrelevant to His Economy.  The ultimate objective is to return to our "Original State," as we were within Relationship with Him, in the Garden.  The Price that Messiah paid, is so that we could be "Echad" with Him again - Kadosh (In our proper place) - "B'ra Shiet" - "In Seeing - Again."

We can see more of this illustration within the concepts of the Laws of Slavery, the release in the 7th Year, Exodus 21:2 and The Year of Jubilee, Leviticus 25.  Through these concepts of Time, YHVH is demonstrating His intent for reconciliation and the resetting of the Universe.  All things returning to a reset state.  This is His Economy!

Perhaps this also explains why The Tav, "The Covenant" is at the End of the Aleph Bet.  A Covenant is a "Promise of Things to Come..."  Then, why is it at the End?  Unless it is a Promise of Things to Come, in the Age to Come - The 8th Day - That Great and Terrible Day of The LORD - The Eternal Day which has no End.  "The last shall be first, and the first shall be last?" (A Cycle)

Now that we have looked at the concepts of Creation, and that we were In Fact, "Created in God's Image," let's look at another profound discovery to help us better understand this Economy.

In Genesis 1:26-28 it reads:

26 And God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.'

27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.

28 And God blessed them; and God said unto them: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth.'

In Verse 27 we found something even more profound that the English doesn't tell you.

In any given context, the Word for "Male and Female" in Hebrew is, "Ish and Isha," but in verse 27 it doesn't say that.  In fact the Hebrew says, "Zakar and Naqabah."  These Words, in any normal context, are not used to describe "Male and Female."  Then why would the translators translate these Words as such?

If I had not worked my way through these foundational concepts of Hebrew Thought, I would not have understood this relationship.  Meaning that, I could not completely understand this relationship until I built upon the foundation of "Tov and Ra" (Good and Evil).  Zakar means to "Remember" (I've taught on this before from the Beamah).  Zakar is like that "Zero" or "Echad" State.  Whereas Naqabah, or its Root, "Naqab," means to "Appoint" as in "Appoint Value," or to "Add To."  This Word can also be used to describe "Blasphemy."

Now, before you get all offended that I just stated that God Created us as "Remembers and Blasphemers" in respect to "Male and Female," let's go back to the rule that "Zakar and Naqab" mean "Zakar and Naqab," and not necessarily "Male and Female," as the Translators have suggested.  (Are we Good?)

I know that referring to "Man" as a "Remember," (Especially in my case - Just as my Wife) carries an ironically funny message, but when we refer to a female as a "Blasphemer," it has a less "funny" affect.  Therefore, let's dig down a little deeper and understand the difference between how Hebrew Thought understands the word Naqab, and how we perceive the Word for "Blasphemy" in English.

Naqab primarily means "To Appoint value to."  This means that the conceptual connection to Blasphemy is by "Appointing Value" to YHVH.  It is the opposite of Idolatry.  Idolatry is raising something UP to be compared to "The Divine," whereas Blasphemy is to bring "The Divine" down to our level, so that we can give it comparable value.

Now, although Naqab can be used to describe "Blasphemy," this is only applicable when making reference to YHVH.  The common use of "Appointing Value," (Naqab) is Kosher on all other levels that we have been given authority to do so, or as verse 28 states"

"and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creepeth upon the earth."

As well, we see further evidence of this in Genesis 2:19-20

19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto the man to see what he would 'CALL THEM'; and whatsoever the man would 'CALL' every living creature, that was to be the 'NAME' thereof.

20 And the man gave 'NAMES" to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a help meet for him.

What's interesting here, is that the concept of Naqab is used to introduce the creation of the "Female" in Genesis Chapter 2.  As we would say, "An appropriate Segway," otherwise the concept change wouldn't make a lot of sense.  The Word is explaining the process of "Naqab," and then transitions right into the fact that Adam was alone.

Therefore what we have learned from this is that the primary focus of the Human Psyche is based upon 2 Things, Memory and Giving Value - "The Image of God."  Ironically, these are also the primary endeavours of Science - Theory = Recorded Data, and Thesis.  You see, God and Science are not so far apart after all.

Let me conclude this Week's entry with addressing the ramifications of this knowledge.

In Chapter 2:16-17 we read:

16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying: 'Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat;

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it; for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.'

18 And the LORD God said: 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.'

Again, is it coincidence that the segway transition is from speaking of the Tree of the Knowledge of  "Good and Evil," right into the topic of the creation of Woman?

Once again, to be sensitive to some of my readers (of the Female persuasion), I'm not going to where you might be thinking that I am.  What I am trying to point out is that the very nature of the Female is "Naqab" (To Appoint Value) or "Ra" Which is to "Add Value."  Meaning that "Evil" doesn't carry the same concept specifically within Hebrew Thought.

It was within Adam's design (Nature) to "Remember" what God said, "Thou shatl not eat of it..." but the Serpent bade his time, and at the moment that Adam was out of the Picture, he went to "Whisper" in Chavah's ear.  Once alone, the serpent could work on her nature to - Naqab.

Here's how it plays out:

1 Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman: 'Yea, hath God said: Ye shall not eat of any tree of the garden?'

2 And the woman said unto the serpent: 'Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat;

3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said: Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.'

What just happened there?  Do we need an instant replay?

"...neither shall ye touch it..."  What was that?

That my friends, is the nature of "Naqab" kicking in.  Without the Balance of Zakar (Male), the Naqab did exactly what it was designed to do, "Add To," offsetting the Echad.

And for this reason The LORD tells Moshe:

Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you. Deuteronomy 4:3

And again He declares:

See that you do all I command you; do not add to it or take away from it.  Deuteronomy 12:32

And how does this all conclude?

I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.

And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

He who testifies to these things says, "Yes, I am coming soon." Amen. Come, Adonai Yeshua.

The grace of Adonai Yeshua be with God's people. Amen. Revelation 22:18-21

Therefore I ask, "Where was Adam?"

It would appear that, Mr. "Remember," forgot to "Cover" his Wife, and when that Balance was broken, the Serpent played his game well - "Divide and Conquer."  Then, as we know, the "Blame Game" began, and hasn't stopped since.

Therefore, YHVH gives us symbols, models and examples of this Foundational Concept of coming together to form a union, in order to demonstrate His ultimate plan for the Universe.

Tune in Next Week, as we continue to Explore "The Shadows of Hebrew."

Thanks for Reading.
